video description

If you use the Google Keep note-taking app, one feature you might have been waiting for the company to add is a way to stylize text. Whether by making text bold or underlining certain words. Maybe it's by adding headings or adding italics to a sentence.

Google has been testing these text formatting options in Keep for what seems like a year now and has finally started rolling out the update to the general public.

This change seems to happen with a server-side update, no matter what version of the app you have installed. When the update is made available to you, a few splash screens will notify you after launching the app.

So first you will see a screen that looks like this.
Asking you to reject the update or refresh the app for the changes to take effect.

After tapping Refresh, you will be notified of new text format features that have been added to Google Keep.

Unfortunately, even after getting the update, there doesn't seem to be a way to format the text of previously created notes.
Instead, you will need to create a new note from Google Keep.
This new note will have the text formatting button here.

When you tap on it, you should be greeted with various options to choose from when typing into the app.

We can now create two headers of different sizes in Google Keep.
We can add bold to certain texts.
We have the option of italicizing certain words.
And we can underline a sentence to make it stand out more.

If you want, we can even remove any previously applied text formatting, by pressing the delete option here.

So there are two ways to format text in Google Keep.

If you have already typed text in a newly created note, then we can perform a long press gesture to highlight a word or phrase.

And from here we can toggle the text formatting options applied to the highlighted text.

Alternatively, if you're working on a newly created note, then we can enable the text formatting option, type in what we want to style, and then turn the feature off when we're done.

Both options work pretty well in Google Keep now that we have the option to bold, underline, italicize text, or a title in our notes.
