After testing new delivery/read indicators and a photo picker redesign, Google Messages is starting to roll out full emoji reactions to some users.

For some time now, a long press in an RCS chat has allowed you to react with one of seven emoji: thumbs up/down, smiley face with heart eyes, face with tears of joy, face with mouth open, crying and angry face. Confront.

This pill-shaped panel now houses a "plus" icon that displays the full emoji picker organized by category. (It's the same sheet you get when you tap the emoji icon next to the microphone in the message field, but without the tabs for GIFs and stickers.) Recently used reactions will appear in the row higher, but it is unclear whether they will eventually replace the default seven.

As we first enabled in September, you can select the full range of emoji for more nuanced reactions in Google Messages. As before, you can tap the character that appears in the lower right corner of a message bubble to get a better view of it, which will be needed more than ever.

Please take the opportunity to connect and share this video with your friends and family if you find it useful.
