But I have more news which means we’ll have to wait that long for a catch-up/tell-all/gossip session so join me. I’ll go first:

There’s another Smitten Kitchen cookbook in the works. It’s official: I didn’t learn my lesson the first time. Since the second Smitten Kitchen cookbook has no title no theme and won’t be out for another two years I imagine you’re all rolling your eyes at the thought of nothing to talk about yet sheesh Deb. But I don’t want there to be any secrets between us so here’s what I do know about the book: Like the first book it will contain a little bit of everything I love to cook — breakfast salads vegetarian main dishes a few meat dishes pies cookies and cakes and some delicious party meals and snacks — plus some new stuff like soups that I’ve finally embraced. (Yay!) Like the first book only a small portion of the recipes (say 10 percent) will be familiar to you and others who read this site; I would never make you wait for stuff that you can get for free anyway. I’m going to retake all of the photos (see above: I’m not learning any lessons from them) and the book is scheduled for release in October 2016. That's four years after the first book but it's also three years early or late depending on how you look at it.

Here’s what else I can tell you: I’m ridiculously excited to share it with you. I’ll admit that I hesitated for a while about writing another book because (for the best reason to be) I was exhausted after three book tours and I missed being able to focus on this space alone. But I was also terrified of what the expectations would be for the second book; the thought of it made me want to go into hiding. I went into hiding actually. But even when I was in denial about writing another book I kept this list of things that might make for a future book. And earlier this year I realized that list had over 100 recipes and instead of a diverse list it looked an awful lot like a book a book I wanted to get started on right away. I can’t wait to share this new batch of dishes with you. I realize that 2016 may seem like an eternity but I’m determined to make it worth the wait.
