Homemade applesauce is super simple
There’s nothing better than homemade applesauce and it’s so easy to make! Every year starting in mid-summer with the Gravensteins and continuing into late fall with Granny Smiths and Fuji apples my dad makes dozens of batches of applesauce from apples he picks off his trees. He freezes them in large quart jars so we can enjoy them all year long.
My dad's secret to applesauce is that he adds a few strips of lemon peel to the apples while they are cooking and adds a little lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.
The acidity of the lemon or vinegar enhances the flavor of the apples and helps balance the sweetness of the sauce. The result is a refreshing delicious applesauce.
