How a captioned phone call works

When connections ask for a phone call, my face becomes (deer in the headlights look). I'm not shy or uncomfortable with phone calls, but captioned phone calls are a bit awkward or strange because of the pauses between speakers. I hope this video helps explain the challenges of a captioned call and that everyone starts to view these breaks as an opportunity to think about what's next.

When the person on the other end of the line is relaxed and comfortable, it's a great conversation! I enjoy those. The best are the second, third, fourth calls with the same person because they know what to expect and see it as a communication tool. Nothing less.
