There’s no shortage of tasks that a trusty air fryer can tackle. They may be small but they pack a mighty punch: they can brown potatoes to perfection roast fragrant whole heads of garlic and even bake a small batch of cupcakes in less time and with a fraction of the energy required by a full-sized conventional oven.

CRISPY AIRFRYER GREEN BEANS

And don’t rule out adding unexpected foods you might not have thought of like macaroni and cheese and hard-boiled eggs (yes really!). But air fryers are perhaps best suited for making dishes extra crispy and crunchy. One of those dishes you can try making right away? Crispy green beans. When made in an air fryer this light side dish or snack has the satisfying crunch of French fries but with veggies. Making green beans in an air fryer elevates a simple serving of steamed or canned legumes without the oil required to fry them traditionally. All you need is some green beans an air fryer and about 10 minutes of your time. Fresh beans work best for this method. You can also use frozen beans but due to their high moisture content they may end up a bit soggy rather than crispy.

Fried foods are undeniably delicious but if you’d rather avoid the tons of oil required the mess of cleanup and time spent on a hot stove can be saved. The perfectly crispy layers created by air fryers are thanks to the technology of the appliance itself. Unlike a conventional oven that is heated by static air sources air fryers heat with circulating air which quickly removes moisture from the surfaces of the food and crisps the outside.

Take your freshly washed green beans (make sure to dry them well with a towel) and toss them with your desired seasonings like garlic powder and salt and pepper. Then spread them out on a rack and pop them in the air fryer at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes until lightly charred but not charred. Use a little oil that you spray or drizzle on top for best results. Just because you can go without oil doesn’t mean you necessarily want to – a little canola or vegetable oil still goes a long way toward achieving that perfect golden brown goodness you’re looking for. Once your green beans are done you can either toss them on pasta and dip them in a sauce and enjoy them like French fries or serve them with maybe a squeeze of fresh lemon and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top. Either way you’ve got the perfect easy side dish for any protein-packed main course.
