Tell me what’s on your hot dog and I’ll tell you what you are. That may not be exactly what French lawyer politician and food writer Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin had in mind when he said “Tell me what you eat and I’ll tell you what you are.” But there’s no denying that hot dogs and the way you top them evoke strong feelings. New Yorkers keep it simple with mustard and sauerkraut or onions. Chicagoans prefer a maximalist approach stuffing sausages with mustard tomatoes onions peppers a pickle spear celery salt and neon-green pickle relish. Out West you’re more likely to find hot dogs wrapped in bacon (because bacon).
With that in mind we asked some of our favorite foodies one question: If you had a hot dog named after you what would be on it? Not surprisingly the answers were as varied as the people themselves. Among the seven answers were BBQ chips bacon cheese various types of mustard and relish and pickles of every kind.
