With the addition of Shortcuts, you can now add contacts to your home screen and dial them immediately from there. Let's see how this is done.
Go to Shortcuts and tap the icon. Tap Add action and search for a call. Tap the contact and search for the desired contact. Name the shortcut above and change the icon as you see fit. After that, tap the menu button at the top and tap Add to Home Screen. Here you can change the icon and icon name again. This is how it will appear on your home screen. Hit Add and you're ready to go!
