There's no denying that Google Maps is a phenomenal mapping service, but it's not perfect. Every once in a while, you might discover a place that isn't on Google Maps. You can help improve the service by adding it yourself.
Anyone can add a location to Google Maps, but that doesn't mean your edit will be accepted. Google does some light checking and other people may report incorrect locations. It is common for card additions to be rejected. With that in mind, let's do it.
Add a missing location on iPhone, iPad or Android
First, open the Google Maps app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device and go to the “Contribute” tab.
Next, tap the “Add Location” button near the top of the screen.
You will now need to fill in the missing location information. You must complete everything marked with an asterisk.
For location area, tap the map if you want to move a pin instead of typing the address. Select the arrow icon in the upper right corner when you're done.
Your contribution will be sent to Google and you will receive an email after review.
Add a missing location from the desktop
You can also add a location using your Windows 10, Mac, and Linux PC. Access the Google Maps website in a web browser such as Google Chrome.
Click the hamburger menu icon in the search box.
Select “Add Missing Location” from the sidebar menu.
This is where you will fill in the information for the missing location. You can click on the map if you want to move the pin to the location or enter the address manually.
Click “Send” when you have finished filling out the form.
A message will appear thanking you for your contribution to Google Maps. You will receive an email once your edit has been reviewed. Click “Done” to finish.
It really is that simple. The hardest part is getting your submission approved. Google rightly protects map data. This is one of the things that makes Google Maps so reliable. Add locations carefully.
