In this video, we'll show you how to sort data in Google Sheets.

The Sort option is present here in the Data menu and allows you to sort the data in the sheet, according to a specific range and in ascending or descending order.

We have an employee file open here detailing sales so far in the year. Let's say we want to sort the data alphabetically, based on the Segment column here, and then numerically in descending order, based on the Total Sales column here.

We want all data on the sheet to be sorted. So let's select all the columns and rows with the data present. Now let's start sorting the data.

Go to the “Data” menu and click on the “Sort Range” option.

You can see that our data has a header row at the top. To not include these cells in the sort range, check this box here.

Now we first want to sort the data based on the Segment column here.

To do this, let's open the Sort by drop-down menu and click on the Segment option. You can choose to sort the data in ascending or descending order.

Let’s keep it in ascending order and click “Sort”.

You can now see that all the data in the sheet has been sorted based on the segment in which the sale was made.

We can add more columns when sorting data. Let's return to the last example.

Here let's sort all the data according to segments, while displaying the total sales in descending order for each segment.

To do this, let's click on "Add another sorting column" and from the drop-down menu select "Total sales".

After that, let's click on this option so that the total sales are displayed in descending order for each segment.

Let's click "Sort" and you can see that Google Sheets has sorted all the data by segments, displaying the total sales in descending order for each segment.

You can continue to add columns to sort based on your spreadsheet.

That's all!
