Note: You are only allowed to change your Xbox gamertag once for free. After that, you need to pay to change your Xbox gamertag.
Follow the steps below to change the Xbox gamertag on the Xbox app:
1. Open the Xbox app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.
2. Once the app is open, select your Xbox gamer photo or profile photo at the bottom right of the Xbox app.
3. Select the gear at the top right of the app to open Settings.
4. Once in Settings, scroll down and select Help Topics.
5. Select Manage your account and profile, then select How to change your Xbox gamertag.
6. Select Edit your gamertag online, then select Sign in in section 1.
7. This will open the browser on your phone. Enter the desired gamertag in the new gamertag field. Then select Check Availability.
8. If the desired gamertag is available, you will be able to modify your gamertag.
