About this video: This video will show you every step of creating a Minecraft server in version 1.20.1. From where to download the Minecraft server.jar file to how to use this file to create a Minecraft server in version 1.20.1 to start playing Minecraft with your friends, this video really covers it all.

Now, it's worth mentioning that this video will show you how to create a server for you and your friends, but it's hosted on your own computer and internet connection. This is in no way intended to be public. Luckily, if you want to build a server in less than 5 minutes, you can check out SimpleGameHosting at the link in the description above.

But first, you will need to download the Minecraft server file. You can find a link to the server download in the description above. This will take you to our detailed text guide on creating a Minecraft 1.20.1 server.

Once you are there, click on the “Download Minecraft” button to go to the official Minecraft server.jar download page. On this page, click on the “minecraft_server.jar” link to immediately start downloading the server.jar. You may need to retain or save the server file, depending on your browser.

Once the server file is downloaded, create a “Minecraft 1.20.1 Server” folder on your desktop and move the file you downloaded there.

Open the Minecraft server folder and double-click server.jar. When you do this, some files and folders will be generated. Specifically, the “eula.txt” file is important. If that doesn't generate, download Java 17 and run Jarfix as described above. This will allow you to launch these files.

Open the eula.txt file and if you agree with the EULA, replace “eulafalse” with “eulatrue”. Save the file and double-click server.jar again. Your Minecraft server will now open with version 1.20.1. You can join open Minecraft and join the server with the IP “localhost”.

To get your friends to join your Minecraft server, you will need to do port forwarding. This can be done by opening the command prompt and typing “ipconfig”. Get the default gateway and IPv4 address from here. You will need it later.

Next, open your browser and type your default gateway into the search bar and press Enter. This will open the login box. Log in to your router and locate port forwarding. This can also be called “Apps and Games”. Add a new port forwarding, making sure to forward port 25565 on TCP and UDP protocols.

After registering the port forwarding, get your public IP address from the link in the description above. This is how your friends will join your Minecraft 1.20.1 server. You may be able to join your server via the public IP address, but as long as you can join via localhost, your friends can join via the public IP address.
