In this video, I'll show you how to use the new feature added in iOS 16 that lets you lift or create cutouts of objects inside photos you've taken.

You can create cutouts of almost anything, removing people, pets, cars and more from the background. Once you select the cutout, you can copy and paste it into other applications, like Messages, Email, Art Programs, or Notes.

In this example, I'm going to cut out this Hawkins High School sticker from a Stranger Things pop-up store we went to and paste it into Apple's new FreeForm app.

Once the photo is ready, simply touch and hold the object you want to cut out. If it doesn't work right away, you can try again, perhaps in a different location, and apply a little more pressure.

Once it's selected, you'll see a bright white outline around the object letting you know it's been selected. Let go, and then you will have some options, copy or share.

In this example, we want to copy and paste it into another application. You can copy and paste into a text message or email, but that's just like sharing.

Tap copy, then navigate to the other app you're using.

Once there, navigate to the Paste menu as usual, depending on the app, but here just tap somewhere and then tap Paste. It will then paste the object you just cut out into the photo.

You can then add, adjust, or do whatever you need to do in the app you're using.

And just to show you what this looks like inside a text, when you type, you can similarly just paste the image, and it will appear in the text as a cutout.

And that's how you create and share photo cutouts on your iPhone.
