First, we prepare by removing the battery and DVD optical drive using the iFixit Essential Electronics Tool Kit. Next, we remove the screws and remove the back cover to reveal the accumulated dust. We disconnect various components including flex cables, old hard drive, heatsink, RAM, CMOS battery, LCD video cable, and CPU.
Once everything is dismantled, it's time for a deep cleaning. Using a portable keyboard vacuum cleaner and a soft brush, remove the dust. For hard to reach areas, we use cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning the heatsink and removing the old thermal paste, we prepare for the upgrades.
We are installing a new 240GB Kingston SSD and replacing the old keyboard. Reassembling the laptop involves reconnecting all the components, applying new thermal paste to the processor, and screwing everything back into place.
Finally, we make sure everything is securely reconnected, including the LCD screen, RAM sticks, and DVD optical drive. With the brand new keyboard installed and everything cleaned and upgraded, our dusty old laptop is transformed into a cleaner, more efficient machine.
