Typically, Disk Management utility is used to delete hard drive partitions. However, there are some scenarios where the "Delete Volume" option is grayed out, preventing users from deleting partitions. This often happens if there is a paging file on the volume you are trying to delete.

What happens if I delete a volume in Disk Management?
When you delete a volume or partition on a disk, it will become unallocated space on the disk. You can then extend another volume/partition on the same disk into this unallocated space to add the unallocated space to the volume/partition.

How to allocate unallocated space as a usable hard drive in Windows, follow these steps:
• Open the Disk Management Console. …
• Right-click the unallocated volume.
• Choose New Simple Volume from the context menu. …
• Click the Next button.
• Set the size of the new volume using the Simple volume size in MB text box.
• Click the Next button.
• Click the Next button again.
• Make sure the NTFS format is chosen.
• Click the Next button.
• Click the Finish button to create the new volume.
• Windows prepares the disk by formatting it, setting the tracks (or parking spaces) for the files. The time required to complete the operation depends on the size of the volume. Larger drives take longer to format.
• The Disk Management Console screen shows the drive being formatted; you can track its progress in the Status column at the top center of the window. The reader only receives its new letter after it has been formatted.
• Once the operation is complete, you can close the Disk Management Console.

How do I disable the paging file?
• Access the properties of this PC
• Click Advance Tap on the left.
• Under Performance, click Settings.
• Under Virtual Memory, click Edit
• Uncheck the automatic management of the page file size….
• Select any drive on which you want to disable its paging file.
• Now at the bottom you will see the option that says “No paging files”, check it
• Click on the “Define” button
• Restart your computer or it asks you to restart. Just do it. Rebooting is required for the changes to take effect.
• Now check if you can remove the drive
• You should now be able to delete the drive.
• If you see the paging file is still there, you may not have disabled the paging file correctly, just go back, start again and follow.
