If you no longer have access to your old Android phone, don't despair. Google offers a way to disable chat features using your phone number at messages.google.com/disable-chat. You will need to have your SIM card active on your new phone to use this tool, as it will send a six-digit verification code to your number. This should do the trick so you can continue texting to your heart's content.
