Note that if you use iMessage on multiple devices, you will need to turn off read receipts on each device, as changing the setting on one device will not affect your other devices. I'll show you how to disable read receipts for iMessage on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Refer to the chapter for each device to jump to instructions for a specific device if desired.

To turn off iMessage read receipts on iPhone, open your Settings app. Scroll down and select Messages. Scroll down to find the Send Read Receipts option. Then, tap the switch to turn off this feature. When the switch turns gray, read receipts are disabled.
To turn off iMessage read receipts on iPad, open your Settings app. On the left, scroll down and select Messages. Next, tap the switch labeled Send read receipts to turn this feature off. When the switch turns gray, read receipts are disabled.
To turn off iMessage read receipts on Mac, open the Messages app. In the menu bar at the top, click Messages. Now select Preferences. At the top of the window that appears, click iMessage. At the bottom, uncheck the box labeled Send read receipts. When the box is empty, read receipts are disabled.
That's all you need to disable iMessage read receipts on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
