First of all, let's understand what a read receipt is. In your Messages app, when you send a message, you can see /"Read/" or /"Delivered/" below it. This tells the sender whether you have read their message.
To disable read receipts, follow these steps:
Open your Settings app, which looks like a gear icon.
Scroll down and tap /"Messages./"
In the Messages settings, search for /"Send read receipts./"
If the toggle is green, read receipts are enabled. To turn them off, tap the toggle so it turns gray.
When the toggle is gray, people won't be notified when you've read their messages. When it is green, they will be notified.
And that's how you disable read receipts on your iPhone.
