Windows Update Delivery Optimization helps you get Windows updates and Microsoft Store apps faster and more reliably.

Windows Update Delivery Optimization works by allowing you to get Windows updates and Microsoft Store apps from non-Microsoft sources, such as other PCs on your local network or PCs on the Internet that download the same files. Delivery Optimization also sends updates and applications from your PC to other PCs on your local network or PCs on the Internet, depending on your settings. Sharing this data between PCs helps reduce the internet bandwidth needed to keep multiple devices up to date or can make downloads more successful if you have a limited or unreliable internet connection.

When Windows downloads an update or application using Delivery Optimization, it searches for other PCs on your local network (or on the Internet, depending on your settings) that have already downloaded that update or this application. Windows does not download the entire file from one place. Instead, the download is divided into smaller parts. Windows then grabs parts of the update or application from PCs that have it, as well as parts from Microsoft. Windows uses the fastest and most reliable download source for each part.

Windows 10 introduces the Windows Update Delivery Optimization feature, in which your computer can receive updates or send updates to neighboring computers or computers on your network. While this means you get updates much faster, it would also leave you behind with higher bandwidth bills. You can prevent Microsoft Windows from using your bandwidth.
