TIP FOR DISPOSING USED COOKING OIL AND GREASE
Serious Mealtimes / Vicky Wasik
One of my college buddies—we’ll call him “Josh” because that’s his real name—had a funny way of disposing of bacon grease. He rented the second floor of a two-family house the only ornament at the intersection of two small but dangerous county roads. Each of the windows on the second floor looked out onto a sort of eaves that ran the length of one side of the house with a gutter at the edge for rainwater. When he was done frying a batch of bacon he’d walk over to a window that looked out over the eaves and just dump the grease out.
The first time I saw this I think I was too shocked to say anything. But every time after that I said (or actually yelled) "Josh! Why are you throwing bacon grease out the window?" And he always yelled back the same thing: "Do you want me to throw it down the sink?"
