Sometimes I get emails from readers who say something like "You said one thing in article X and then a few years later in article Y you said almost the opposite. What's going on? Do you not believe in science and does science not deal in facts?"

There is only one kind of science that is not open to contradiction: the bad kind. Science must be open to accepting and considering contradictory evidence and to redefining “facts” by definition. If new theories were not allowed to be formed and conclusions were not allowed to be disproved by further experimentation we would still believe in crazy things like spontaneous generation of static universes or even that searing meat sequesters juices. And where would we be today?
