First, I show how to open 7z files without any additional software. Windows 11 supports some archive formats, including 7z. Simply double-click a 7z file in File Explorer to extract it. However, this does not work for password-protected archives.

Next, I install the open source 7-Zip utility for more robust management of 7z files. 7-Zip can open and extract all kinds of 7z files, including those with encryption and multi-volume splits. I show you how to integrate 7-Zip into File Explorer's context menu for quick access. You can also use the main 7-Zip interface to view and extract any type of archive.
