Using the Live Photos feature on your iPhone when taking photos can sometimes save you a lot. I keep it enabled by default, because sometimes you never know when you'll be able to use it.

What I mean, for example, is maybe you're taking a family photo and someone blinks. If Live Photos is turned off, you're stuck with the photo that was taken. But if Live Photos is enabled, you can use them to browse and find a frame that everyone is open to.

There are also other uses for Live Photos, such as effects like bounce, loop, or long exposure.

I'll first show you how to make sure the feature is enabled, then how to change them once you've taken a photo.

Start by opening the camera app. Making sure you're on the photo tab at the bottom, you can enable Live Photos by either tapping the icon here at the top, or by sliding the modes up here and enabling them that way. Now that you have it turned on, you can take a photo.

Now that we've taken a photo, let's edit it. Find and open the Live Photo you want to edit. You will know if the image was taken live when it is shown here.

Let's look at the effects first. Tap Live at the top. You will then get a drop-down list of different effects that you can use. You have the options of Loop, which loops live photo images, Bounce, which simply bounces back and forth, and finally Long Exposure. A long exposure gives motion blur to anything that moves while taking a photo. A cool tip here, try using a long exposure on something like a car driving by at night or a river with rapids.

Next, let's see how to change the frame that appears by default. Like I said earlier, this is perfect for taking a photo where someone blinks or looks away. You can also use it to frame something out of the image, like we'll do here.

Start by tapping Edit at the top. Then, at the bottom, tap the live photo icon. You will then see a timeline of all the images taken in that photo. Scroll until you find a new frame you like, then tap Create Key Photo. It will then change the default view for that photo when you browse your photos. When you're finished, click Done.

If you want to change it, you can simply go back to the editing screen and revert the frame to the original, or press Revert and then revert to the original.

And that's how you edit Live Photos on your iPhone or iPad.
