Liz: Hi everyone. Liz from Apple ToolBox here.

Liz: I usually listen to my music on my iPhone with headphones, but sometimes I just don't want to wear them.

Liz: But sometimes my iPhone gets stuck in headphone mode and the speakers don't work.

Liz: This seems to happen to a lot more people than me. So I'm going to explain some things I did to unlock my iPhone from headphone mode.

Liz: So let's go!

Liz: Probably the easiest thing to do is plug and unplug your headphones. There may be dust or dirt in the headphone jack, so doing this multiple times may just loosen whatever's in there.

Liz: Another thing to try is blowing air into the headphone jack. Do it yourself or use a can of compressed air, or even a hair dryer, just make sure it's on the cool setting…

Liz: For all of these tips, remember to turn off your iPhone first. Do this before performing any type of cleaning on the outlet itself.

Liz: You can use a toothpick, a cotton swab, or one of those interdental brushes, but be very gentle because you don't want to push too hard, it could lead to much worse problems. Wiggle it so it touches all sides of the jack, then carefully remove it.

Liz: Finally, if none of these things help, let's try changing some settings on your iPhone. Turn on Airplane mode, back up to iCloud or go to Settings, Sounds, Ringtone and listen to something. While playing, press volume up or down to unlock headphone mode.

Liz: I hope these techniques help you get your speakers back into action. Cleaning your headphone jack can also result in better sound, as dust and debris interfere with the contact.
