How to Fix the Stupid Broken EA App on Steam Deck
The #EA app is a huge nuisance, and even though Valve fixed the install with #Proton Experimental, it still breaks on #SteamDeck. Here's a workaround for now to get your games working again. Here's the first video on Valve's initial patch and how to set up Proton Experimental if you missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?vlg_Bt7TdEqE

Not:

– Set EA games to Proton Experimental. Properties – Compatibility – Check the box – Select Proton Experimental.

– Make a backup of the save files (IMPORTANT) as they may be deleted during this operation. I can't stress this enough, find out where the backup files are and copy them somewhere safe. JUST DO IT. You can find the Windows folders of the games in the “compatdata” folder, then the Steam game ID.
For example: /.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/*game_id*/

– In game properties – Developer – Delete Proton files

– Restart the game

This is the simplest fix I've found so far, which doesn't require using Protontricks or swapping Proton versions which could cause other issues (like a broken Proton prefix) or anything else. Not every game needs a backup, but it's best not to rely on Steam Cloud (and some games don't).
