This Windows 10 tutorial will help you troubleshoot issues with your computer or laptop's built-in webcam and external USB webcams from Logitech, Microsoft, Razor and more. I used these steps to troubleshoot issues with my Logitech C270, Logitech C920, and Logitech C625.
Basic Windows 10 Webcam Fixes – 00:35
• Make sure your webcam is plugged in and turned on.
• Make sure your webcam is not used by any other applications on your PC. I recommend closing any applications on your computer that don't need to be open.
• Try connecting your webcam to another USB port.
• Restart your computer or laptop.
Windows 10 Camera Privacy Settings – 01:20
1. Right-click on the Windows 10 Start button.
2. Select Settings from the menu.
3. In Windows 10 Settings, find Camera, then select Camera Privacy Settings.
4. Make sure the following settings are enabled
• Allow apps to access your camera
• Allow desktop apps to access your camera
Uninstall and reinstall Windows 10 camera drivers – 02:09
1. Right-click on the Windows 10 Start button.
2. Select Device Manager.
3. In Device Manager, right-click your computer user name, and then select Scan for hardware changes.
4. Find and expand Cameras.
5. Right-click Built-in Webcam and select Uninstall. If you are asked to delete, DO NOT CHOOSE DELETE.
6. Uninstall the built-in webcam drivers.
7. Once finished, return to Windows 10 Device Manager, right-click your computer username, and then select Scan for hardware changes. The cameras should reappear. Restart your computer if the cameras do not reappear.
8. Once the cameras reappear, expand Cameras.
9. Right-click Built-in Webcam and select Update Driver.
10. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
The following Windows 10 webcam fixes require administrator access on your computer. Perform at your own risk.
Fix Windows 10 update issues preventing your webcam from working – 03:50
1. Right-click on the Windows 10 Start button.
2. Select either Command Prompt (Administrator) or Windows Powershell (Administrator)
3. Paste the following text into the window and press Enter on your keyboard:
dead stop wuauserv
dead stop cryptSvc
sharp stop bits
net shutdown msi server
ren C://Windows//SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C://Windows//System32//catroot2 catroot2.old
netboot wuauserv
netboot cryptSvc
net boot bits
msi server clean boot
4. Restart your computer once the process is complete.
Disable Frame Server mode in Windows 10 – 05:05
1. Right-click on the Windows 10 Start button.
2. Select Run.
3. Type redegit then select run.
4. Navigate to the following folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//Microsoft//Windows Media Foundation//Platform
5. Create a DWORD (32-bit) values file with the name EnableFrameServerMode
6. If you have a 64-bit Windows computer, make the following changes, otherwise you are done with this method.
7. Navigate to the following folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//WOW6432Node//Microsoft//Windows Media Foundation//Platform
8. Create a DWORD (32-bit) values file named EnableFrameServerMode.
