Take steps this National Walking Day and improve your cardiovascular health!

Although walking is often dismissed by some as an effective form of exercise it actually has many benefits: it strengthens your heart and improves your mood but also improves your blood sugar levels and reduces the risk of dementia.

The American Heart Association wants to help more people experience these benefits. That's why since 2007 they've designated the first Wednesday in April as National Walking Day. This year's slogan is "Walk More. Stress Less." The main goal of the campaign is simply to raise awareness about the benefits of moving more.

“Walking is an easy way to add more physical activity to your day and the benefits extend beyond physical health” said Monik Jiménez Sc.DSM FAHA a volunteer at the American Heart Association and an instructor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in a press release. “The recommended amount of physical activity per week that can be achieved through walking has been linked to a lower risk of disease stronger bones and muscles and better mental health.”
