Softmaker FreeOffice is the free version and a very nice alternative to the Microsoft Office suite. Here we will install FreeOffice on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Linux using its official repository.

FreeOffice does not offer all applications like we have in MS-Office, but focuses on three main office applications for daily use. These are Text (an alternative to MS Word), Presentation (like PowerPoint) and PlanMaker (SpreadSheet).

With the help of this free office suite, we can not only open native Microsoft Office file formats such as DOCX, XLSX and PPTX, it is even possible to save files in them.

Those who are already familiar with the Microsoft Office interface will have no problem getting used to FreeOffice due to its MS-Office-like ribbon menu panel. However, a classic is also available if some of us want to use it.
