video description

Here I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S23 and in today's video I'm going to show you how to install new OTA updates on it while keeping all your data.

Once you gain root access to your Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23, or Galaxy S23 Ultra, you will notice that you cannot install monthly security updates using the built-in updater. If you try, you will receive an error message like this.

You can see that the latest version of Android is not installed on this phone, so let's change that here today.

To begin with, we need to manually download the new OTA update. I use a program called Frija to find the latest firmware for my device, but you can also use many popular Samsung firmware repository websites such as SamMobile or SamFW if you want. Just make sure to download the compressed file from a trusted source.

This firmware must then be extracted to your PC so that it can be loaded into Odin.

But before doing that, we need to patch the AP firmware file with the version of Magisk that you have installed on your Galaxy S23 series device. So take this firmware file which starts with letters AP and copy it to your smartphone and then open the Magisk app.

Tap the Install button at the top here, then choose the Select and Fix File option.

Navigate to where you stored this AP firmware file and let Magisk patch the firmware to include the root binaries you will need.

This will generate a file named magisk_patched, and we need to take this file and copy it back to our PC. I store this file in the same folder as our other firmware files that were just downloaded.

Now we need to boot the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 plus or Galaxy S23 Ultra into download mode. To try and keep this video from being longer than it needs to be, I will link to a dedicated video that I have already made which shows all the steps involved in booting these smartphones into mode download.

With the phone in download mode, let's make sure it's connected to the PC via USB cable, then open Odin on your computer.

Let's go ahead and load the firmware files into Odin, starting with the BL file.
Then the CP file
Then we will make the HOME_CSC file
And finally we will load the magisk_patched file into the AP slot

Here is my options tab, in case you have changed these settings on your version of Odin.

When you're ready, let's click the Start button here at the bottom.

During this process, we want to be patient and not handle the Galaxy S23 at all. We don't even want to touch the USB cable, because if we interrupt the installation of these firmware files, we could end up causing our device to boot into a boot loop.

So just keep the Galaxy S23 on the desktop, tablet or any other solid surface so that the files can be installed properly.

When everything is finished, we will receive a green PASS message here at the top of Odin and you should notice that the smartphone has restarted on its own.

This Android reboot should take about the same amount of time as you're used to. Since we haven't deleted any of our data and Android hasn't been reset, it should take the same amount of time

Hope this helped everyone who wants to install new OTA updates on their rooted Galaxy S23 series smartphone.
