video description

I have the Google Pixel 8 here and in today's video I'm going to show you how to install new OTA updates even if your device has already been rooted with Magisk. You will not lose any of your photos, videos, apps, games or personal data if you follow all the steps mentioned here.

This process will be exactly the same even if you also own the larger Pixel 8 Pro. It doesn't matter which Google Pixel 2023 smartphone you own. This video will walk you through all the steps involved.

The first thing we'll need to do is open the Magisk app and then tap on the Modules tab here at the bottom right.
From here we need to disable all the modules you have installed.

And then we need to restart our Google Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro.

ANDROID FLASH TOOL
This firmware will be installed via the Android Flash Tool website.
So let's scroll down this list until we find the device we currently own.
If it is the Pixel 8 Pro, we will retrieve the latest firmware from this section.
If you own the classic Pixel 8 like me, you will find the latest firmware in this list.

Next, you will want to click on the Flash link next to this firmware.

Let's allow access to ADB from here. Now also follow the 4 steps listed on the website.

Go ahead and enable Developer Mode.
And then enable USB debugging mode.

Now we will connect our Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro to the PC with a USB cable.
This will allow us to select the phone from the list so that it appears in the Android Flash tool.

There are a number of options that we can use when installing this OTA update. But we'll just leave them all unchecked.

However, if you need to keep Verity and Verification disabled, this is where you can do it.

INSTALL
When you're ready, click the blue Install Build button and wait for the Android Flash tool to do all the work for us.
It will download the firmware from the Internet and temporarily store it on your PC.
The program will then extract the firmware files and manually install them one by one on our device.

No need to move the phone. No need to move the cable.
Just let the program update our Google Pixel 8.

TO RESTART
When everything is finished, the smartphone will restart on its own.
This is when it will also be safe to unplug the USB cable.
Now we just have to wait for the phone to reboot into the Android operating system.

ROOT AGAIN
Unfortunately, given the way Google currently configures these Pixel devices, there isn't an easy way to install a new update while keeping the phone rooted.
So now that the phone has been updated, we simply need to root it again.

Since you've done this before, the process will be exactly the same as before.

It can be annoying to re-root the phone every month.
But then you don't have to worry about bootlooping the new update because Magisk is not compatible with the update.
