How to Make a Lattice Pie Crust | Sally's Baking Recipes

A woven lattice pie crust can make a homemade pie look so beautiful. As intimidating as it may look to the non-weavers among us weaving a lattice pie crust is actually quite easy. Be careful you may get flashbacks of kindergarten crafts and construction paper.

To get the nice brown pie crust brush the lattice with some milk cream or an egg wash (one egg beaten with a tablespoon of water). The egg yolk should be completely absorbed into the liquid and the egg wash should be thin enough to flow from a brush onto the pastry strips.

Whatever icing you use you can sprinkle the entire top of the lattice cake with some sand or turbinado sugar. It adds sparkle and crunch to the baked cake.
