The question of setting up a primary display falls under the topic of a dual monitor setup – so it could be a dual monitor setup for desktops or a dual monitor setup using a computer laptop and an external monitor.
A Lenovo Tiny Mini-PC Thinkcentre M700, an older Dell IN2010N monitor and a JVC LT-24CM690BE monitor were used in this video.
The JVC LT-24CM690BE monitor will be designated as the primary primary display – under Windows 10. The Dell IN2010N – is currently the primary monitor.
It is often thought that you need to make driver/cable changes to your setup, in order to change the main displays. Or even move your monitors. However, this is not the case. A few simple changes to your system settings will make a difference.
So why would anyone want to make the largest JVC monitor the primary monitor? The main/primary monitor is the default monitor on which everything (apps/programs) is initially displayed (usually) in Windows 10. This, in addition to being able to lock the screen and log into Windows. The main monitor is also where you receive your notifications and have access to taskbar functionality.
What appears on the main screen – at a glance?
* Lock screen option, change user page, log in/out
* Task manager screen (by pressing ctrl-alt-del)
* The notification bar
* When opening apps/programs for the first time, they normally open on the main main screen.
So it is essential to determine which monitor is your primary/primary monitor – Windows sets the primary monitor.
There may also be various personal reasons for wanting to make the larger monitor or external monitor (when using a laptop as another display) the primary display, including:
*Individuals may prefer to work on larger screens
* You are a gamer and need more screen space
* You undertake a lot of detailed work
* You do a lot of copy/pasting of data
*There could be a whole range of reasons…..
How to change primary monitor Windows 10 Monitor 1 to Monitor 2, follow these steps:
1. Click on the search box with a magnifying glass at the bottom left of the screen
2. 'Type 'display' in the search box
3. Select “Duplicate or extend to connected display”. The DISPLAY SETTINGS screen opens.
You can identify screen numbers, as assigned by the Windows operating system, by clicking "identify." It shows the Dell IN2010N monitor as the primary monitor (Screen 1). The JVC LT-24CM690BE display is monitor 2 – the secondary monitor, as shown in the display settings.
4. Click on the monitor (icon) you want as your primary display – highlighted in blue.
5. Scroll down to “multiple displays”. Select “make this my main screen” – check the box to implement this change.
Great: you should have created your other screen, the main screen!
