Mulled wine has been warming drinkers since the time of the ancient Romans. It’s the perfect drink to bring a little cheer to a cold winter’s day. If you’re hosting a party at home it’s an inviting way to welcome your guests. The smell is amazing and a glass of mulled red wine will put anyone in a good mood — and it’s easy to make and serve too!

Traditional mulled wine is a hot drink made with red wine spices (such as cinnamon nutmeg cardamom star anise cloves) sugar and sometimes a fruit component such as apple or citrus. Different countries and cultures have their own unique recipes for mulled wine. In the UK it is called Glühwein in Germany it is Glühwein in France it is Vin Chaud and in Scandinavian countries it is called Glögg or Gløgg. While there may be different variations in alcohol and sugar content and twists in the mix of spices used the general recipe for mulled wine is the same the world over: red wine sugar and spices!
