There are many settings you will need to change to make your account private, and the settings you change will depend on whether you want your account to be completely private to the point that only you can see everything, or mostly private. so only your friends can see things.

I'll show you how to do this on the Facebook app, but the settings will be similar on desktop as well.

Open the Facebook app and tap the three-line button at the bottom right of the home page. If you're on Android, the three-line button will be at the top right of the page.

Scroll down and tap “Settings & Privacy,” then tap “Settings”

Scroll down to “Privacy” and tap “Privacy Settings”

Tap on “Manage your profile” depending on what you have added here you will need to edit different settings but to the right of each category you need to tap on the edit option.

Tap “edit” to the right of “contact details”

Then, to the right of the address, you need to tap the friends or globe icon, tap “more options,” then choose “only me.”

Tap “Manage Contact Info,” then tap each email and number and tap “Friends or Public,” below “who can see this” and change it to “only me.”

Return to the edit profile page and tap the globe or friends icon to the right of each item and change the setting to friends or just me, whichever you prefer. When you've edited each item, tap "save" at the bottom of the page.

Tap “edit” to the right of “basic information”

Then, to the right of “date of birth” and “year of birth,” tap the drop-down arrows and choose “friends,” or tap “more options” and then select “only me.”

You can also hide your gender on your timeline by tapping the button to the right of gender and choosing "hidden in timeline."

You can also make your spoken languages private the same way you made everything else private.

Tap “Save” at the bottom when you have everything set to friends or just me. This will take you back to your profile, but we have other settings to change.

So go back to your settings, scroll down to the “Privacy” section and tap “Privacy Settings”.

Under “Your Activity,” tap “Who can see your future posts.”

You have the option to choose only friends or only specific friends, which is a very good option, or all friends except certain people. However, if you don't want anyone to be able to see your future posts, you can tap more and then choose "only me", which goes against Facebook being a social media…

Tap the back arrow, then tap “Limit who can see past posts” and tap “Limit past posts.” This will make anything on your timeline shared as public or friends of friends now limited to friends. This way, only your friends will be able to see your past posts. Tap “Limit Past Posts” in the pop-up.

Tap “Who can see the people pages and lists you follow” and change it to just me.

Under “How people can find and contact you,” tap “who can send you friend requests” and change it to “friends of friends.”

Then tap “who can see your friends list” and change it to “friends” or “only me”.

Tap “Who can search for you using the email address you provided” and change it to “Only me”.

And do the same with the “phone number”

Tap “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile,” turn off the toggle, then tap “Turn Off” in the pop-up.

Return to the main settings page and tap “Profile & Tagging” under the “Privacy” heading.

If you want a completely private profile, you need to go to each of these settings and change them all to me only or turn off the setting. However, as I've said before, having some of these settings set solely on me really defeats the purpose of Facebook. You may want to set them as friends only or as specific friends.

The two settings at the bottom for reviewing tags should be enabled.

Go back to the main settings again and tap “public posts” under the “privacy” heading.

Put it all on “friends”

Go back to the main settings and tap “facial recognition” under the privacy section.

Make sure facial recognition is turned off.

Go back to the main settings page and tap "location" and make sure "location services" and "location history" are turned off.

Please take the opportunity to connect and share this video with your friends and family if you find it useful.
