Eggnog Recipe | How to Make Eggnog

Eggnog is a holiday drink beloved by Americans but its history dates back to 14th-century England. Today it’s synonymous with Christmas parties and festive holidays. Remember that time your uncle had a little too much spiced eggnog? Whether you serve it from a punch bowl at a party or just make it yourself to enjoy on a cozy December evening eggnog just tastes better when it’s homemade.

There are multiple ways to enjoy your eggnog. Enjoy it with rum or bourbon or try it plain for a treat the whole family can enjoy. We love it so much that we’ve incorporated it into coffee creamers and a plethora of holiday desserts. Traditionally eggnog is aged in alcohol for several weeks (even up to a year!) to preserve and sterilize the drink since it contains raw eggs. But for those who aren’t quite so patient (I’m talking about me) this basic recipe for homemade eggnog can be made the night before your holiday party without the risk of foodborne illness.
