Are you running SQL Server on-premises and want to migrate to Azure? Review your best assessment and migration options. Bob Ward, SQL Server database expert and engineering manager, joins host Jeremy Chapman to walk through the different migration options for moving your SQL databases to the cloud, then demonstrates how to perform an end-to-end migration at the end.

Whether you need to increase your capacity, take advantage of built-in high availability during disaster recovery, or reduce your operational costs, migrating to Azure is the next logical step. In fact, you can move your existing SQL licenses to the cloud with Azure Hybrid Benefit. And with this benefit, you can also import your on-premises licenses into Azure to save on subscription costs.

Explore the migration options:
• Move your SQL servers to Azure virtual machines rather than your own infrastructure.
• Migrate to Azure SQL Managed Instance, which is a fully managed SQL server.
• Migrate to Azure SQL Database, which is the best solution for modern database applications and gives you maximum capabilities managed by PaaS.

Find tools to migrate to a managed instance or Azure SQL database:
Data Migration Assistant (DMA) helps detect compatibility issues that may impact database functionality in your new version of SQL Server or Azure SQL. And it helps you properly size your deployment for the appropriate Azure service tier.
Data Migration Service (DMS) provides a holistic view of the state of your data after your initial assessment and is used for live migration with no downtime.
