How to Open Old Microsoft Office Files on Windows

This tutorial will address issues you might encounter when opening certain types of Word documents in Microsoft Office. The solution, however, is relatively simple.

If you get a lot of "file is corrupted and cannot be opened" or "unable to start properly" warnings, open Command Prompt (again, by right-clicking the Start menu) and type :

icacls /"%programfiles%//Microsoft Office 15/" /grant *S-1-15-2-1:(OI)(CI)RX

This should resolve your issue – if it doesn't, try finding each corrupted file, right-click, select Change, then Online Repair.
