JAPANESE BREAKFAST Traditional recipe/Healthy food/Great grandmother's Japanese food (125 years)

A traditional Japanese breakfast is probably unlike any other breakfast you will ever experience. It consists of foods that form a complete meal that one could potentially eat for lunch or dinner.

A traditional Japanese breakfast consists of steamed rice miso soup a protein such as grilled fish and various side dishes. Common side dishes may include tsukemono (Japanese pickles) nori (dried seasoned seaweed) natto (fermented soybeans) kobachi (small side dishes usually consisting of vegetables) and a green salad.

Although a Japanese breakfast consists of what Westerners might consider a complete meal suitable for lunch or dinner it is not meant to be heavy or filling. Portion sizes for breakfast are adjusted to one’s appetite and dishes are generally lighter for example not greasy fried or rich.
