Meet the couple happily watering their kitchen floor with a garden hose and learn their tips for protecting your home from flood damage.

When their home just outside Oxford flooded in 2000, Dr Peter Rawcliffe and his wife Maggie diligently repaired the damage as it was.

However, when they found their South Hinksley home underwater in 2003, the couple decided to take a new approach to flood protection.

As well as finding new uses for yoghurt pots and discovering the best way to deploy a sandbag, members of the Oxford Flood Alliance have completely redesigned their interiors.

The wooden floor was ditched and a host of small changes were made, including raised skirting boards, lime plaster and a kitchen floor fitted with a pump – innovations which helped the Rawcliffes cope with severe flooding in 2007 and again this week.
