Hot soup (or other hot liquids) will steam and expand in the blender causing the top to pop off. This can create a mess and pose a fire hazard.
Puree hot soup in batches. Fill blender 1/3 to 1/2 full remove or twist center cap from blender lid. Cover lid with folded tea towel and hold while blending. Repeat with remaining batches.
