The Facebook app actually gives you all your Facebook data if you ask for it in Facebook settings. You can choose just posts or everything you've done on Facebook. You can also select a date range for the request.
Once your request is complete, you will receive a Zip file that you can unzip and open with the Files app on your iPhone or Android.
There you will see all messages and you can recover all messages that you sent or received on Facebook or Facebook Messenger.
