If you backed up your device while the messages you want to recover were still on your device, you should be able to recover them. You can check if backups are enabled by opening your Settings. Scroll down and tap Accounts & backup. Here you can see the options to back up your data with your device manufacturer or through Google. Since Google is more widely available, I will use Google Backup for this demonstration. Tap Save data. If necessary, log in to your account. You will then be able to see when your device was last backed up. In order to restore this data to your device, you will need to reset your device. This sounds more intimidating than it is, but you will need to factory reset your Android in order to load a saved backup of the data onto your device. To reset your Android device, open your Settings. Scroll down and select General Management. Now tap Reset. Select Factory data reset. Now tap Reset. Complete the process to reset your Android as if it were a brand new device. Then you will be ready to set up your Android with your saved backup. Select Cannot use old device. Log in to the account where your backup was saved. Next, choose the backup you want to restore. Wait for your save to load onto your device. Once loaded, the data stored in your saved backup will be restored to your device. Open your Messages app and the texts you want to recover should be there if they were in the backup you just restored.
