Windows 8 is very similar to Windows 7 when used in Desktop view. However, Microsoft has decided to remove the Start button and menu that were previously located in the lower left corner. Instead, there's a button that takes you to the tiled interface, which is designed primarily for tablet and smartphone users and is useless if you don't have a touchscreen.
It is possible to restore the functionality of the Start button and menu as found in Windows 7, by installing the free Power 8 program made by Mike /"AgentMC/" Makarov and Andrey Khabalevskyi.
