video description

I have the Pixel 8 here with the Android 15 Beta 1 update installed on it, and in today's video I'm going to show you how to get root access to this beta firmware version.

#android15 #pixel8 #pixel7 #pixel6 #pixel8pro #pixel7pro #pixel6pro

Just know that this process will work with all Google Pixel devices that have Android 15 Beta installed.

But before we can get started, we're going to need to set up a few things in advance.

For example, you will need to unlock the bootloader before you can root the Pixel phone.
If you haven't already, check out the videos here on my channel as I have made these bootloader unlock tutorials for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8 series and many more.

ADB and Fastboot tools will not be required on the desktop or laptop you are working from. If you're not familiar with this or haven't installed it yet, be sure to check out the video description below as I will have a link to a dedicated video that I have that shows the way easiest way to install ADB and Fastboot tools. .

You will also need to install the Magisk app.
Just make sure to download it directly from the GitHub project page.

You will also need to have manually downloaded the same Android 15 Beta firmware currently installed on your device.
Make sure you have downloaded the same firmware that matches the one currently installed on your smartphone or tablet.

Here is the downloaded firmware.
This must be extracted so that we have access to this file.
And then we need to dive into this compressed file, so we can extract either the boot.img file or the init_boot.img file.

Since I have the Pixel 8 and the usual root tutorial requires me to fix the init_boot.img file, that's the file I'll copy to the phone.

But if you own an old Pixel device. . .then you may need to patch the standard boot.img file (instead of the init_boot.img file). If so, you'll want to copy that file to the device instead.

Now let's open the Magisk application.
Tap the Install Here button in the top area of the map.
And then we need to browse and select the init_boot.img file. . .or the standard boot.img file
The Magisk app will go through the file, fix the required bits, then give us an output file in our Downloads folder.
This output file will be labeled as magisk_patched

And we will have to copy this file back to our PC so that it can be flashed in Fastboot mode.
Now let's restart our Google Pixel device in Fastboot mode
And again, if you're not sure how to do this, I'll have a dedicated guide linked in the video description below.

Make sure the magisk_patched file is in the same folder as our ADB and Fastboot tools
And then type the following command

fastboot flash init_boot magisk_patched

and make sure we get an OK message on both answers here.

When we turn our attention back to the Google Pixel phone, we can then reboot out of Fastboot mode and return to Android.

Once reconnected, find this Magisk app and open it.
You may find that Magisk requires additional configuration

Which will be displayed via a pop-up. But that may not be the case.
We want to look at this top card here to see if the device was successfully rooted.

We can even install a free root checker app from the Play Store to check and see that it has been successfully rooted.

And that concludes today's video on how to root Google Pixel series once Android 15 Beta is installed on it.
