In iOS 5, there is a feature that lets you see if the person you sent a text message read it. You go to Settings/Messages/ and slide sending a read receipt to enabled. This can be done on any iPhone or iPad with iOS 5. Now when you send a text message, you will not only be able to see if your message was delivered, but you will also be able to see that it was read.
