Being able to have different notification sounds for different apps can be extremely convenient. Not only is it great for personalizing your smartphone or tablet, but it can also tell you which app or game is sending the notification without ever needing to pick up the device.

In today's video I'll be using the Google Pixel 7 Pro to show you how to do this, but it will also work on many other Android devices. I did some more testing and this process also works on the latest version of LineageOS based on Android 12. It should even work on Android 11 as well.

To get started, we first need to open the Settings app and then select the Apps option. Now you're going to want to find the app or game you want to change the notification sound for.

From here we want to select the Notifications option and this is where you will see all the different categories of notifications available for this app. These categories are set by the developer itself, so you may only see one notification category here or you may see many.

Each category that makes a sound will have a bell icon next to it. If you see a notification category without a bell next to it, that means it has been set to silent.

So, to change the notification sound of this app, we need to select one of the categories from this list with a bell next to it.

Now scroll down a little and tap on the Sound option. From here you will be able to set the notification sound to any sound available on your device. You should even be able to set it to a custom sound using the My Sounds option. . .or using the file browser option if available.

Once we change the notification sound for that category, we can go back and select another category to customize as well. Remember that some apps have many different categories to configure, while others only have one or two. It all depends on how the developers have configured their application or game.

So, not only can you set a custom notification sound for each app you have installed, but you can also set a different notification sound for each notification category of an app. You can also just set each notification category to the same sound so it's easy to distinguish between the different apps you're sending notifications with.

Once you have configured all notification categories for a particular app, you can find another one in your apps list and customize the corresponding notification sound as well.

This is how Android handles custom notification sounds for different apps, and you should be able to go through your list of apps in the Settings app to configure each sound played for each app on your device.
