In this quick tech video, I'll show you a trick to recover auto reply texts on iOS 15 using Focus driving mode.

Before iOS 15, we could use Do Not Disturb to send automatic text message replies to people while Do Not Disturb was enabled. But with the latest version of iOS and the introduction of Focus mode, you may be wondering how to get this feature back. I've been digging around and it looks like we can use driving focus mode to get around this issue.

To get started, open Settings.

In Settings, scroll down and tap Focus.

Here you will see some of the default focus modes already used by Apple. But if you look through them, you will see that there is nowhere to create a custom auto-reply message. They only allow you to use the new response on focus status. This just lets the other user know that you are in focus mode if you want.

From the focus screen, tap the plus sign at the top right, then choose Driving.

Tap Next, then choose whether you want authorized contacts to bypass Do Not Disturb. I'm just going to tap Allow None at the bottom.

On this screen, since we're not always going to use it while driving, tap Skip to turn off automatic driving detection. When you're finished, click Done.

Now, on the Driving focus page here, you will see the auto-reply. Tap Auto-reply and choose who you want to auto-reply to. I'll choose All Contacts.

After that, you can enter your auto-reply message.

We will check one last thing on the previous page. Tap While driving under the automatic activation option and make sure it is in manual mode. Again, this allows you to have full manual control over this, and it doesn't automatically turn on every time your iPhone thinks you're driving.

Now that we have this setup, you can enable it by tapping the slider to the right of the Driving title at the top. Your phone is now in Do Not Disturb mode and will automatically respond with your message.

You'll also be able to access it as a shortcut in the future from your Control Center by swiping up from the top right corner of your screen and long-pressing Focus. When the options appear, choose Driving.

And that’s how you enable Do Not Disturb automatic replies to text messages in iOS15 using Focus driving mode.
