Android's app optimization phase while installing OTA update is annoying, but we can skip this process by loading the update.

For some of us, when a new OTA update comes out, we rush to download and install it as soon as possible. For some modern Android devices, this may take longer than we would like due to the /"app optimization/" step which seems to take much longer than the firmware update process.

This is likely because Android wants these tasks to run in the background and running the task faster would result in decreased multitasking performance. This isn't a problem for those of us who manually install these updates, but your average user will just let the update download and install in the background without paying attention to it.

We enthusiasts may be a little more impatient with the process and this has led many people to share their disgust with the Android community.

But there is a faster way to install these OTA updates and that's what I want to show you how to do today. This method requires a PC, as we will be downloading the update. But then again, if you're an Android enthusiast, you probably have a computer on hand anyway.

This does not require the bootloader to be unlocked and will only work like normal OTA updates (so you cannot be rooted and follow this tutorial successfully).

To begin, we must first download the OTA update that we want to install. I have the Google Pixel 4a here, so I'll grab this new firmware update from Google's Factory Images website.

We also need to install ADB and Fastboot tools. I explained how to do this in a previous tutorial. If you don't have it set up on your computer, check out the video description below, as I'll include a link to this guide to get you up to speed.

We then need to move or copy this firmware file to the same folder as our ADB and Fastboot tools.
Now let's boot the smartphone into recovery mode

Use hardware buttons to launch Sideload mode

then run the sideload command via command prompt, terminal, or Windows PowerShell

Once the update is installed, we can simply restart the phone as usual via the Recovery Mode menu.
And note that we didn't have to go through a very long application optimization phase like we usually do.
