Android devices make multitasking easier by giving users the ability to run in split-screen mode. Splitting your screen lets you run two apps at the same time side by side. You can easily adjust split screen to give one app more space than the other, and you can also quickly swap apps in and out of the mode. The only downside is that not all Android apps can be run in split screen.

Now let's move on to the steps to use the split screen feature on an Android device. In this example, I will use Android 10.

Step 1. Tap to open the apps you want to use in split-screen mode on your Android device. In this example, I will open the Google Play Store and YouTube apps.

Step 2. Tap the /“Recent Apps/” icon in your device menu at the bottom of the screen. All your currently open apps will be displayed in a row on the screen.

Step 3. Hold your finger against the icon of the main app you want to run in split-screen mode to open a menu, then tap "Open in split-screen mode." In this example, I'll set up Google Play . Store as my main multitasking app. A minimized version of this app will be displayed at the top or side of your screen. You won't be able to change this app to split-screen mode without closing split-screen.

Step 4. Now tap on the other app from the list that you want to open in split-screen mode. The apps list will close and the apps will be displayed in split-screen mode.

You can use split screen mode with your device in portrait or landscape mode. You can easily change the non-primary split-screen app by tapping to open the recent apps screen again, then selecting a new app from that list. The Recent Apps screen will close and you will return to split-screen mode, where your new app will be displayed. Additionally, you can hold your finger against the blue line between apps and move it to give one app more screen space than the other.

You can close split-screen mode at any time by going to the Recent Apps screen, then tapping the /"X/" on the small part of the screen showing your main app in split-screen. This app will return to the apps row. Any apps you open in the future will occupy the full screen.
