How to take a screenshot and save it as an image file using Windows Paint
Learn how to take a screenshot and save it as an image file using Windows Paint. This video will teach you how to save your screenshot as a Jpeg, Gif, Tif or Bmp image file using the Windows Paint application. This tutorial is intended to cover all versions of Windows. I used Windows 8 when creating this tutorial, but I also explained the slight differences between the operating systems.

Written instructions:

To take a screenshot in any version of Windows, you will need to click the “print screen” key on your keyboard. Once done, a copy of the desktop image will be saved to your clipboard.

To save the screenshot as an image file, you will need to paste the image into Windows Paint.

To open Windows Paint in Windows 8:
1.) Go to the bottom left corner of the screen and click on the Start button.
2.) On the Start menu screen, type the word “paint” and click Enter.

To open Windows Paint in an older version of Windows:

1.) Go to the bottom left corner of the screen and click on the Start button.
2.) Click All Programs/Program Files.
3.) Click on the “Accessories” folder.
4.) Double-click on the 'Paint' application to open it.

To save your screenshot in Windows Paint:
1.) Click once on the blank page in Windows Paint.
2,) Press Ctrl & v to paste the image into the blank page.
3,) Click 'File' and go to 'Save As'.
4.) If you are using Windows 7/8, options will appear to select the file type.
5.) If you are using an older version of Windows, the image type will default to bmp. To change the file type, use the “Save as type” drop-down menu.
Once you have selected the correct image type, choose the file name and click Save.
